Why Your Park Home Needs a Porch
You know the feeling. It’s chucking it down outside and you’re standing at your front door, fumbling for keys while rain trickles down your collar. Or perhaps it’s those muddy boots that end up dumped in the hallway because there’s genuinely nowhere else for them to go.
These might seem like minor gripes in the grand scheme of things, but they do add up. Day after day, week after week.
A porch sorts all of this out rather neatly. You get a covered entrance—somewhere to shake off wet coats and kick off dirty shoes before you step inside. Go for an enclosed design and you’ll also gain an extra buffer between your living space and whatever the British weather decides to throw at you that day.
For park home owners especially, where square footage tends to be precious, a thoughtfully designed porch can make daily life noticeably more comfortable.
“The porch keeps the cold out, gives us somewhere for all the coats and boots, and looks smart from the road. Honestly, we should have had it done years ago. The fitters were punctual, polite, and finished the job in three days. It matches the house perfectly.”
— Ron and Janet S., Berkshire
Types of Porch We Build
Every park home is different, so we offer several porch styles to suit your property’s character and your practical needs.
Fully Enclosed uPVC
Our most popular choice. Double-glazed windows, solid door, proper roof—completely weatherproof and virtually maintenance-free.
Timber Frame
Suits traditional park homes beautifully. Built to match your home’s existing specification with a warmth that some people simply prefer.
Open Porches
A roof supported by posts provides shelter without full enclosure. Perfect where planning restrictions apply or you prefer an airier feel.
Lean-To Designs
Attaches directly to your wall with a single-slope roof. Compact, efficient, and ideal where space is limited.
Why Park Homes Benefit From Porches
Thermal Buffer Zone
Creates an airlock between indoors and outdoors. Open the porch door, step inside, close it—then enter into the warmth.
Practical Storage
Space for coats, umbrellas, shopping bags, dog leads, wellington boots—all the clutter that otherwise piles by the front door.
Enhanced Security
Two doors instead of one. We fit multi-point locking systems as standard, making forced entry considerably harder.
Kerb Appeal
A well-proportioned porch transforms your park home’s front—making it look more substantial and better maintained.
Meet Matt
I’ve been working with park homes for close to twenty years now, and honestly, there’s something genuinely satisfying about this work. Each property has its own quirks—nothing’s ever quite standard—which keeps things interesting.
When we started Urban Stone back in 2008, park home owners were often treated as an afterthought by the bigger construction firms. They’d turn up with solutions designed for brick-built houses and seem puzzled when they didn’t quite fit.
We took a different approach. Learned the specific requirements. Understood the regulations around detachable structures. Worked out which materials actually perform well in this context.
These days, our team has fitted hundreds of porches across Berkshire, London, Essex, Kent, Surrey and Hertfordshire. We know what works, what doesn’t, and how to avoid the pitfalls that catch out less experienced installers.
If you’re thinking about a porch for your park home, give us a ring. No hard sell—just an honest conversation about what might suit your situation.

Planning Permission & Compliance
Most park home porches fall under permitted development rights—no formal planning permission needed. The standard criteria are straightforward: floor area under three square metres, no part exceeding three metres in height, and at least two metres from any boundary facing a public highway.
There’s an additional consideration specific to park homes. Under the 2008 model standards, porches should be detachable from the main structure—not permanently fixed. This technical requirement relates to the legal definition of a mobile home, and affects how we design and connect the porch. All our builds comply with this.
Your park owner will also need to approve alterations. Most are happy to grant permission since porches improve the site’s appearance, but it’s worth checking before committing. We can advise on how to approach that conversation if you’re unsure.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a park home porch installation take?
Most straightforward porches take two to three days to complete. More complex designs—perhaps with additional glazing or bespoke features—might stretch to four or five days. We’ll give you a realistic timescale during your site visit.
Do I need planning permission for a park home porch?
Usually not, provided your porch meets certain criteria: floor area under three square metres, maximum height of three metres, and at least two metres from any highway boundary. We ensure all our designs comply with these requirements and the 2008 model standards for park homes.
How much does a park home porch cost?
Prices vary depending on size, materials and specification. We don’t believe in vague estimates that mysteriously increase once work begins—the price we quote is the price you pay. Contact us for a free, no-obligation quote tailored to your specific requirements.
Will the porch match my existing park home?
Absolutely. We offer a range of colours and finishes, including woodgrain effects that look remarkably like real timber. During your consultation, we’ll discuss options that complement your home’s existing style—whether that’s traditional or contemporary.
What maintenance does a uPVC porch require?
Very little, honestly. Wipe down the frames with soapy water a couple of times a year, clean the windows as you would any other glass, and that’s about it. The material is inherently weatherproof and won’t degrade under normal conditions.
